If God is in Control, Then Why Does He Allow So Much Suffering in the World?

God is not in control of everything that man does. If He were, then we would have to conclude that He endorses everything that evil people do.

There is a devil. John 10:10 (NKJV) “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

The wages of sin is death. Romans 6:23

Proverbs 5:22-23 (NKJV) His own iniquities entrap the wicked man, And he is caught in the cords of his sin. {23} He shall die for lack of instruction, And in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.

We reap what we sow. Galatians 6:7-8 Do not be deceived, God will not be mocked. For whatsoever a man sows the same shall he also reap.

 God gives man a choice. Deuteronomy 30:19 (NKJV)  “I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live;

 People are destroyed for a lack of knowledge. Hosea 4:6 (NKJV) My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge… Many people, including Christians simply do not know what they do not know.

  1. Your response commentary answer surprised me. You declared ” God is NOT” in control of everything that man does. Is not Biblical!! God IS in CONTROL of everything. There are occasions when God, desiring to show His wrath and to make known His power, has put up with evil individuals due for destruction. His purpose has been to make known the riches of His glory to those whom He has purposed to save (Romans 9:22-23).

    Sometimes God sees to it that the worst of people are allowed to be exalted so that they may fulfill His purposes without their knowing it (Isaiah 10:5, Isaiah 10:7).

    He uses even the enemies of His people to discipline them in their disobedience (Judges 2:14-15, Judges 2:21-23; Judges 2:3:12).

    On the other hand, He can harden the hearts of His people’s enemies so that they fall into His people’s hands or even destroy themselves (Joshua 11:20; Judges 7:22).
    Lastly is there anything too hard for God

    1. Thanks for your comment. While I agree that God does turn people into the hands of their enemies, and even use evil people for His purposes, such as Pharaoh etc. God is not controlling all of the evil that man is involved in.

      While God will have the final say in the ultimate plans that He has for this earth and the people on it, to declare that God is in control of everything simply is not true.

      There is a vast difference between God allowing something to happen and God ordaining it to happen. He allowed Adam and Eve to eat from the tree of the ‘Knowledge of Good and Evil,’ however this does not mean that He was in control of their disobedience.

      God allows many evil things to happen because He gives man the free will to choose between obedience or rebellion, yet much of what people do on a regular basis has absolutely nothing with the will of God. In this respect God is certainly not in control of everything.
